Sadie & Tom’s Woodland Wedding at The Woodlands at Hothorpe
Sadie and Tom’s wedding at The Woodlands at Hothorpe in September 2025 was calm in the best way. From the moment guests arrived, nobody was in a hurry, and that set the tone for the whole day.
It’s set amongst the trees on the Northamptonshire and Leicestershire border, and the day ran at an easy pace. Sunshine coming through the woodland, conversations going on a little longer than planned, and people actually being there rather than rushing from one thing to the next.
Relaxed, emotional without being overwhelming, and quietly happy from start to finish.
A Unique Woodland Wedding Venue on the Northamptonshire and Leicestershire Border
The Woodlands at Hothorpe is an exclusive use venue that really does feel tucked away from everything.
It mixes outdoor ceremony spaces under the trees with bright indoor areas, and there’s accommodation on site, including the Treehouse Suite, so nobody needs to head off anywhere between parts of the day.
It’s the kind of venue that doesn’t need dressing up. The trees do most of the work.
Morning Prep Surrounded by Nature
Sadie got ready in one of the little houses just outside the main venue, still very much part of The Woodlands. The morning was calm, with plenty of time and space.
There was a little girl who was so excited to be involved, proudly taking on her role as flower girl. Photographing her excitement was one of my favourite bits of the morning.
The most emotional moment came when Sadie had a first look with her children. Big hugs, a few tears and a lot of feeling in that room, before everything else got going.
Tom got ready on site too, in one of the chalets in the grounds. He and the boys spent part of the morning playing poker, which I’d never seen at groom prep before. As ways to calm the nerves go, it’s a good one.
An Outdoor Ceremony Beneath the Trees
The ceremony was outdoors, beneath the trees, with sunshine coming through the leaves the whole way through.
It was registrar led and properly emotional. Their guests looked so happy for them.
As they walked back down the aisle together, confetti was thrown right there in the ceremony space. No stopping, no shuffling everyone somewhere else, it just carried straight on into the celebrations.
Relaxed Portraits in the Woodland
We did the portraits around the grounds, close to the ceremony area, which gave Sadie and Tom a bit of privacy without taking them away from their guests for long.
There’s a small bridge tucked away on site that works really well for portraits, so we used that along with the woodland around it. Sadie and Tom relaxed into it, had a laugh and enjoyed a few minutes together.
Group photos were quick and easy too. No long waits, no stress.
An Evening Full of Energy
As the evening arrived, the energy picked up on its own.
The dancefloor filled quickly and stayed full. Not chaotic, just lots of people properly enjoying themselves, the kind of atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable joining in.
Sadie and Tom chose not to step away for evening portraits, because they wanted every possible minute with their family and friends. Fair enough. Being there for your own wedding comes first.
Why Sadie & Tom Chose Me
Sadie and Tom wanted someone who’d guide them when needed, blend in, and photograph the day as it felt rather than turning it into a photoshoot.
Their kind words afterwards meant a lot. Hearing they felt supported and relaxed, and were surprised by how much of the emotion came through in the photos, is exactly what I’m aiming for.
