The Meadow Barn at Stratford Park wedding photographer: an honest guide

First things first

I haven’t photographed a wedding at The Meadow Barn yet, so you won’t find me pretending to know which corner of the courtyard gets the best light at 4pm. What I do know is weddings around Stratford upon Avon. I’ve photographed at Ettington Park Hotel, a short drive away, and I cover weddings all over Warwickshire from my base in Northamptonshire.

Everything below comes from the venue’s own information, looked at through a photographer’s eyes.

What I’d be looking at

A 17th century barn with plenty of daylight

The Meadow Barn is a 17th century building with exposed oak beams, a high vaulted ceiling, and big doors and windows letting the daylight in. That last bit’s the important one for me. Oak and brick give indoor photos a warm, textured look, and natural light stops it all going gloomy. Outside, there’s a private courtyard with a fountain, a terrace, lawns, and an outdoor ceremony space with a living willow tunnel and arbour.

It sits right beside The Stratford Park Hotel. One thing worth knowing: exclusive use currently covers the barn, courtyard and terrace. The hotel and golf course stay open to the public unless you arrange full site exclusivity separately, so don’t be surprised to spot the odd golfer in the distance.

Inside or outside for the ceremony

The best bit: the venue says you can leave the final decision until the night before.

  • Indoors: the barn itself, with the oak beams overhead. A good Plan B, or Plan A if you simply like it better.
  • Outdoors: the arbour and lawns, with the living willow tunnel nearby. I’ll be at the front for your faces, then move round quietly for your guests’ reactions.

Leaving the weather call that late takes a lot of pressure off. Nobody wants to spend a fortnight refreshing the forecast.

Drinks, dinner and the evening

The venue’s current website says up to 100 guests during the day and 150 in the evening. Ceremony, drinks, food and the party can all happen around the barn, courtyard and terrace, which suits the way I work. Less shuffling people between buildings means more time actually enjoying it.

Where I’d expect the good stuff to happen

  • The courtyard, around the fountain during drinks. Guests naturally gather in spaces like this, which is great for candids.
  • The lawns, for group photos. Plenty of open space, so groups are quick to organise and nobody’s squashed against a wall.
  • The terrace, later on. The venue says the sun sets over the lawns from there, so if the light’s doing something nice in the evening, we’ll nip back out.
  • The willow tunnel and arbour, for a few relaxed portraits.
  • The barn after dark, for speeches, the first dance and whatever happens on the dance floor after that.

It’s not a fixed route, by the way. I’ll work with whatever the weather and the timings give us on the day.

Getting ready, staying over and the small print

A few practical bits from the venue’s current information:

  • Bedrooms: eight of the barn bedrooms currently need to be booked on the night of the wedding.
  • Dogs: currently welcome throughout the day and evening, so the dog can come to the party.
  • Getting ready: the bridal suite, which the venue also calls the bridal prep lounge, is an optional extra available from 6am to 6pm. It’s designed with plenty of natural light, which helps for getting ready photos.
  • Timings: these depend on your package. The Grand I Do currently lists a 1pm civil ceremony and a midnight finish, and the Untraditional package a 3pm ceremony and a 1am finish.

Parking’s free on site. Packages do change, so it’s worth double checking all of this with the venue when you book.

Meadow Barn wedding FAQs

Can we hold an outdoor ceremony at Meadow Barn?

Yes. There’s an outdoor ceremony space with a living willow tunnel and an arbour, and the venue says you can leave the final decision about going outside until the night before.

Is the venue licensed for civil ceremonies?

Yes. Civil ceremonies take place here, with the barn as the indoor option if the weather changes. Ceremony times vary by package, so check the current details with the venue.

What is the guest capacity for ceremonies and receptions?

The venue’s current website says up to 100 guests during the day and 150 in the evening.

Is there accommodation for guests at or near the venue?

Yes. The Stratford Park Hotel is right beside the barn, with 32 bedrooms, and your own overnight stay is included in the main venue package.

How do we book our wedding date?

Call the venue on 01789 731857 or book a viewing through their website. If you’d like to check I’m free on your date too, send me a message.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

The venue’s current website doesn’t go into detail on physical access, so if anyone in your group has access needs, talk it through with the venue before you book.

What it’s like having me there

I’m a documentary photographer, which mostly means I’m watching. I’ll step in when I need to, getting everyone together for groups or lining up confetti, and the rest of the time I just let things happen. Couples are usually surprised by how little they notice me.

Portraits without disappearing

Portraits take around 15 minutes. With the willow tunnel, the courtyard, the terrace and the lawns all a short walk from the barn, there’s no need to march you off anywhere. We pop out, get a few different looks, and you’re back with your guests before anyone’s noticed you’ve gone.

Searching for a wedding photographer in Warwickshire?

I’m Lewis, a documentary wedding photographer based in Northamptonshire, which puts Stratford within easy reach. I’ve photographed over 250 weddings since 2015, across the Midlands, around the UK and abroad in Mexico and Cyprus.

There’s a highlights slideshow within a week of the wedding, then a private online gallery with unlimited downloads. Every image in it is edited individually by me.

If you want a feel for a Warwickshire wedding, Zahra and Elliot’s day in Stratford upon Avon is a good one. Around 30 of their closest people, a walk together to the ceremony, and a surprise bagpipe player at the reception.

Thinking about The Meadow Barn?

If you’ve booked it, or it’s on your shortlist, tell me about your plans. Numbers, ceremony time, whether you’re hoping for the willow tunnel or happy to stay in the barn. I’ll let you know if I’m free and how I’d approach the day.

Still deciding? Book a viewing with the venue and ask them the practical questions on this page while you’re there.
