September 2025. Nottingham. A venue I’d never photographed before, but one I instantly knew was going to be special.
As a relaxed wedding photographer covering Nottingham and across the UK, I’m always excited to shoot somewhere new, especially when that venue has as much character as The Pumping House.
When Imogen and Ashley booked me to photograph their wedding at The Pumping House in Nottingham, I did what I always do, I had a proper look at the venue. Industrial brickwork, bold interiors, loads of personality. I knew straight away this was going to be a day full of atmosphere.
Morning Prep & A Proud Dad Moment
I arrived early, as always. Not to “control” anything, but to get my bearings. I like to know where the best light falls, where group shots will work naturally, and where we can sneak off for relaxed portraits later.
Ashley was already there adding personal touches. I left him to it and headed to bridal prep.
Bridal prep was full of energy. Laughter, kids running around, that buzz you only get on a wedding morning. Then came a beautiful first look with Imogen and her dad. He looked so proud. Proper lump-in-the-throat moment.
Those are the moments that matter. Not staged. Just real.
A Ceremony With Their Little Boy in Their Arms
The ceremony room filled quickly. You could feel how proud everyone was.
One of my favourite parts of the entire day? The couple picked up their little boy and held him during the ceremony. It was natural, relaxed, completely them.
Then just like that, they were officially Mr and Mrs.
Simple. Emotional. Perfect.
The Confetti That Nearly Didn’t Happen
The weather had other ideas.
Sunny. Drizzle. Sunny again. Then drizzle.
We attempted the confetti throw once. Rained. Back inside.
Second attempt. Same story.
Third time lucky.
And when it finally happened, it happened properly. Confetti everywhere, guests cheering, everyone laughing at how ridiculous the situation had been.
Honestly, that unpredictability is what makes weddings memorable. No one will ever forget the “three attempts at confetti” moment.
And the photos? Worth every second.
Drinks, Family Chaos & Competitive Adults
During drinks reception, the hugs were constant. Guests fussing over their little one. Their son repeatedly making a beeline for Imogen’s dress and trying to sit on it every chance he got. Brilliant.
The couple have chosen to keep most images of the children private, which I completely respect. It’s their story. I’m just trusted to capture it.
Thankfully the weather settled enough for group shots and a few relaxed wedding portraits before we headed inside for speeches and the wedding breakfast.
The speeches hit everything. Funny. Emotional. Slightly chaotic in places, in the best way.
And the food? Massive BBQ style feast. I eat a lot. Even I struggled. I’d happily attempt it again though.
The Gaming Room & Evening Portraits
One of the best surprises at The Pumping House is the gaming room. Arcade machines, table football, proper nostalgic energy. The couple even brought their Nintendo Wii.
Adults after a few drinks playing arcade games? Competitive. Loud. Brilliant for candid wedding photography.
Later in the evening, we headed outside again for more portraits. Imogen’s dad happily helped me with lighting, absolute legend.
The maintenance man pointed out a spot he said no photographer had ever used before. So obviously, I used it. And we created something a bit different.
That’s what I love about shooting at a venue for the first time. Fresh eyes. No autopilot.
Live Music, High Energy & A Packed Dancefloor
Cake cut. First dance. Dad and daughter dance.
Then the party properly started.
Ashley and his band actually provided live music during the evening. And they were unreal. The dancefloor was packed from start to finish, high energy, zero holding back.
The kind of dancefloor that makes you leave still buzzing.
