Fun & Alternative Wedding Photographer Buckinghamshire

Barn weddings, big laughs, and photos that don’t take over the day

Fun, Relaxed
Buckinghamshire Wedding Photographer

Hi, I’m Lewis. See the review from Kate and Luke just down the page? At their wedding at Winters Tale Country Barn they decided they didn’t want couple portraits at all. Just a few quick family photos, then the rest of the day with their people. So that’s what we did, and their gallery is full of the courtyard, the games, the speeches and the dance floor.
That’s the heart of how I work. Your wedding, your call. I’m a documentary wedding photographer, so I’m mostly watching and photographing what’s actually going on, not stopping things so you can do them again for the camera.
Most couples do want a few portraits, and that’s when I’ll step in with a bit of direction. Around 15 minutes is usually plenty. Somewhere close by, a few laughs, and you’re back before your drink’s gone warm.
If being in front of a camera makes you squirm, you’re far from alone. Matt told me he wasn’t keen when I photographed his and Kayleigh’s engagement shoot at Horwood House. He soon relaxed into it, and by the wedding he knew exactly what to expect. An engagement shoot is never essential, but it can help if nerves are your thing.
On the day, I blend in. Buckinghamshire barn weddings are great for that, because everything tends to happen in one place. Guests gather in the courtyard, the kids find something to climb, and I can move between it all without anyone feeling watched.
The family photos get done quickly, usually while everyone’s already together outside, with as little standing around as possible.
You’ll get 20 sneak peeks within 48 hours, so there’s something to share while the rest are being edited. If you’re planning a Bucks wedding, send me a message. I’d love to hear what you’ve got in mind.

“Lewis was absolutely perfect from start to finish. He is professional, organised, efficient, friendly, and a bloody fabulous photographer!”

A relaxed Buckinghamshire wedding photographer who knows the barns
Buckinghamshire is just over the border from me in Northamptonshire, and I’ve photographed weddings at Huntsmill Farm, Horwood House, Notley Tythe Barn, Winters Tale Country Barn, Rackleys Chiltern Hills and Notley Abbey. Huntsmill Farm is the one I’ve been back to most, and it’s never felt the same twice. I was also named Best Wedding Photographer in the Midlands at The I Do Wedding Awards 2026, which you can read about on my awards page, along with a couple of others.
If you’re at the comparing stage, my guide to choosing the right photographer covers the questions worth asking. Biggest tip? Have a chat with them first, even if it’s just a video call. You’ll know pretty quickly whether you’d want them at your wedding.
Why book me for a Bucks wedding?

I take on a limited number of weddings each year, so when it’s your turn, you’ve got all of me, not half of me thinking about next week.

Alternative wedding photography in Buckinghamshire
Why barns and documentary photos get on so well
A lot of Buckinghamshire weddings happen at farms and barns, and they suit my approach down to the ground. At Huntsmill Farm, couples usually get ready in the cottages around the courtyard, so I can nip between both sides of the morning without anyone getting in a car. At Helen and Graham’s wedding, Helen’s mum brought an air fryer and was making bacon sandwiches. That’s the kind of wedding morning I want to photograph.
Real moments, not recreated ones
Stacey and Harley’s bridesmaids brought a little camcorder and recorded bits of the day alongside me. There was miniature golf on the lawns, ice creams outside in October, and a dance floor that by the end of the night didn’t care about age, shoes or dignity. None of it needed me to set anything up. It just needed me to be there.
A bit of creativity when the moment’s right
Portraits at Huntsmill tend to happen out in the fields, which change with the seasons, or by the old red tractor if you fancy something different. At Rackleys I’ve done portraits on a rainy night. Notley Tythe Barn gave me low winter sun and the Chiltern Hills. Wherever you’re getting married, I’ll find a few good spots close by and keep it quick.
Buckinghamshire venues where I’ve photographed weddings
Buckinghamshire has a bit of everything: farm barns, country houses and venues tucked into the Chiltern Hills. When you’re choosing the right wedding venue, think about how the day will flow. Can everyone get ready on site? Where do guests go if it rains? Is there somewhere close by for a quick wander? Those little things make a big difference to how relaxed the day feels.

FAQ
Do you cover the whole of Buckinghamshire?
Yes. North Bucks and Milton Keynes are a short drive from me in Northamptonshire, and I’ve photographed weddings right down into the Chiltern Hills. Further afield is no problem either.
Is alternative just another word for documentary?
In my case, pretty much. Documentary is how I work: photographing your wedding as it happens rather than directing it. Alternative is how it feels: relaxed, fun and nothing like a stiff line up of poses.
Will our parents still get the photos they want?
Yes. Family groups are part of every wedding I photograph. Give me a list beforehand, I’ll do the rounding up on the day, and we’ll get through them quickly so nobody’s stood on the lawn for ages.
Do we have to have couple portraits?
No. Some couples love a creative wander, some want five minutes, some want none at all. Tell me what feels right for you and I’ll plan around it.
What happens if it rains?
We adapt. Most Bucks barns have good options under cover, and I always arrive early to have a look around and plan where we can go. Rain can make for some great photos, as long as nobody’s too precious about their shoes.
Can we ask for specific photos?
Definitely. A family tradition, a car you’re arriving in, an idea you’ve been saving on your phone, tell me and I’ll make sure it happens.
What do other couples say about you?
Best to let them tell you. My reviews page is full of real couples, and it’ll tell you more than I can.
