Babz and Gary celebrating at their Dodford Manor wedding

A Relaxed and Joyful Spring Wedding at Dodford Manor

A Barn Venue I Know Well

I’ve photographed many weddings at Dodford Manor in Northamptonshire, and no two have felt the same. Lots of light, big countryside views, and two barns that keep everyone close together.

In April, I photographed Babz and Gary’s wedding day there, and it was an absolute belter from start to finish.

Meeting Babz and Gary

A few weeks before the wedding, I met Babz and Gary in Milton Keynes to run through their plans and timeline. They were my kind of people straight away. Laid back, funny, and mainly bothered about having a fun, stress free wedding with their favourite people.

We chatted, we laughed, and I came away pretty sure this was going to be a wedding full of real moments. It was.

The Wedding Morning at Dodford Manor

On the day, I arrived early at Dodford Manor, with the spring sun already warming up the gardens and barns. Gary rocked up soon after with his groomsmen, all looking sharp and in good spirits.

One moment that stood out was Babz’s dad arriving with a gift for Gary, a watch, which he fastened around Gary’s wrist himself. Quiet, emotional, no fuss. One of my favourite photos of the morning.

Babz Knew What She Wanted

Babz arrived shortly after, calm and collected and looking great. She’d asked me to spend less time on prep shots and more on the guests, which I loved. It’s always brilliant when a couple trusts me to just get on with photographing the natural, unposed moments.

So while the girls got ready, I drifted between the guests arriving, photographing hugs, laughter and all the little interactions that usually go unnoticed.

The Ceremony: Laughter and a Few Happy Tears

As guests filtered into the Mortain Barn for the ceremony, you could feel the buzz. This was a big wedding, and every guest turned up ready to feel all of it.

The ceremony had laughter, happy tears and everything in between. Babz and Gary were beaming the whole way through. I’m always watching for the little reactions, the proud look from a parent, a stifled laugh from a best mate, and this ceremony had loads of them.

Drinks Reception in the Gardens

After the “I dos”, everyone spilled out into the gardens. The sun kept shining, kids ran wild, drinks flowed and there was laughter everywhere you turned.

We did a few relaxed group photos and nipped off for some couple portraits, but Babz and Gary were clear they didn’t want to spend ages posing. They wanted to be with their people, and I’m all for that. A few minutes was plenty for some lovely, natural portraits, then they were straight back to the party.

Speeches, Laughter and One Hell of a Party

The wedding breakfast was in the Oak Barn, with its big glass walls and countryside views. The wedding speeches came before the food, and they were brilliant.

Plenty of laughs, a few emotional moments and even a couple of surprise tears. I just kept watching the room for those honest, blink and you’ll miss it expressions.

Once the plates were cleared and the evening guests began to arrive, things went up a gear.

Cake, First Dance and a Packed Dance Floor

Babz and Gary cut their cake and went straight into their first dance, which had plenty of energy of its own. Then the party properly kicked off.

The DJ had the dance floor packed all night, first track to last. There were some seriously talented dancers in the mix too. I’m talking spins, dips, even a moonwalk or two.

I don’t think I stopped grinning behind the camera all night.

Final Thoughts on Babz and Gary’s Dodford Manor Wedding

From the ceremony to the dance floor, Babz and Gary’s wedding at Dodford Manor was everything a wedding should be. Fun, emotional and laid back.

A massive thank you to the two of them for being such good fun to photograph, and to all their guests for making me feel so welcome.

And hats off to the Dodford Manor team, who were brilliant all day. Nothing was too much trouble and everything ran like clockwork.
