A Spring Wedding at The White Hart in Bedfordshire
If you’re looking for a wedding photographer at The White Hart Ampthill, Emily and Victoria’s spring wedding is a good example of a close, relaxed celebration. I photographed preparations for both brides, their family first looks, two much loved dogs, confetti, garden portraits, emotional speeches and dancing.
Why did Emily and Victoria meet me before booking?
They wanted to meet in person first and make sure we got on. Very sensible. Your photographer is around for a big chunk of your wedding, so feeling comfortable with them matters. We had a good chat about their plans, then later met at The White Hart to walk through the timings.
They were both relaxed and funny, but each had their own wedding morning energy. Emily’s room was full of excitement, while Victoria was a little more nervous and smiling all the way through it. Both completely normal.
How did preparations work for two brides?
The rooms were only a few doors apart, so I could move between Emily and Victoria easily without missing either side of the morning. Emily had a first look with her dad and grandad. Victoria had one with her nan. Two very different reactions, both lovely.
Their two dogs were part of the celebration too. Pets are family, and it’s always good when they can be involved in a way that feels right for the couple. If you’re planning this now, check the current wedding arrangements with the venue directly because general dog rules can change.
What was the ceremony like in The Stables?
The main function room is now called The Stables, with exposed brick and oak beams, and it gets warmer in feel as the day goes on. Emily and Victoria held their ceremony there, and there were plenty of tears. After the vows, everyone went outside for confetti along the path.
Their dogs joined them for the confetti, and the couple stopped for a kiss halfway along. Guests did exactly what you’d hope. Big cheers, lots of smiles, and the ceremony turned straight into a celebration.
How did the garden portraits stay relaxed?
We used the garden pathways, greenery and pond area for a few couple portraits. It gave us a quieter space away from everyone for a short while, then they could return to their guests. Later, we stepped outside again for a few photographs as the light changed.
The front of The White Hart also gave us an Ampthill town wedding feel, which was different from the garden. You don’t need ten locations to have variety. A few areas close by, used at the right time, are more than enough.
What happened after the ceremony?
Group photos were done outside, then everyone came together in The Stables for the wedding breakfast and speeches. There were tears in the room during the speeches. Their people were clearly very happy to be there, and that always comes through in the photos.
Once the party began, the dance floor had real energy. Cake was cut, the first dance happened and guests of all ages got involved. I don’t need to create a dance floor moment. I just move through it, watch what is unfolding and photograph the people having the most fun.
What should couples know about The White Hart today?
I’ve photographed weddings at The White Hart. It suits a smaller, informal celebration where the preparations, ceremony, meal, speeches and party all stay close together. Outside there’s a meadow and courtyard, with covered seating and festoon lighting for later in the day.
There’s accommodation on site, but no dedicated wedding car park, so guests use the public car parks nearby. Worth checking the current arrangements for parking, dogs, access and timings with the venue when you book.
How do I photograph a relaxed wedding at The White Hart?
Around 15 minutes is normally enough for portraits, then you’re back with the people you invited. I’ll help with the practical things, but I’m not there to run your day.
