For Sedgebrook Hall wedding photography, I’ve photographed many weddings here. Leanne and Bryn’s spring wedding was full of the kind of moments I love: a relaxed ceremony, guests bringing some unexpected energy, a quick portrait session and a couple who barely noticed I was there once the day got going.
What’s Sedgebrook Hall like to photograph?
Sedgebrook Hall gives me a lot of variety in one place. There’s the original Victorian manor house with its period detail, then more modern wedding spaces. Outside, you’ve got landscaped grounds, mature trees, open lawns and countryside. Every wedding can look a little different without anyone needing to leave the venue.
The outdoor Pagoda is surrounded by greenery and works well for ceremonies when the weather behaves. Inside, the Elm Suite sits in the original manor house and has more character, while the Oak Suite is bigger and more contemporary. There are plenty of windows and lighter spots that work well for getting ready photographs and quieter moments.
It gives me options. And options make wedding days easier.
How did Leanne and Bryn’s wedding day feel?
I met Leanne and Bryn at their home around a month before the wedding, and we got on straight away. They were laid back, clearly very much in love and keen for the day to be about their guests as much as anything else.
A week before the wedding, I revisited the venue so I could look around and think through the photography. I knew I could use the grounds for portraits, but I also knew that most of the day would be about watching the atmosphere unfold.
Their guests made that easy. The ceremony had a couple of memorable moments, including some guests arriving with drinks that were politely redirected to the bar. Then came a Mexican wave in the middle of the ceremony. You never quite know what people will do when they’re excited. I was there to photograph it, not stop it.
What did Leanne and Bryn say about their photographs?
After the wedding, Leanne and Bryn said that apart from the posed photographs with family and each other, they hardly knew I was there. That means a lot to me.
Being unobtrusive isn’t about disappearing for the sake of it. I’m always paying attention, looking for reactions, conversations, someone laughing across the room and all the small things you won’t have time to notice. I just don’t need to be in the middle of every moment with a camera in someone’s face.
How do portraits work around Sedgebrook Hall?
The landscaped grounds are the obvious strength. Mature trees, lawns and the original manor house give plenty of variety. The Pagoda and gardens work well for ceremony photographs, confetti and natural guest moments, while the front of the manor is good for wider shots and groups.
Everyone at Leanne and Bryn’s wedding made me feel very welcome, and everywhere I looked people were smiling, laughing and having a great time. That always makes portraits easier, because the couple come to them already relaxed.
Around 15 minutes is normally enough for portraits here. I’ll pick the parts of the grounds that are working best with the weather and light, give you a bit of direction and get you back to the drinks reception. No awkward performance. No disappearing for an age.
If the evening light looks good, a few minutes later on can add another look to the gallery. It’s flexible, not a rigid production.
What should you know about planning a Sedgebrook Hall wedding?
There are indoor and outdoor ceremony options, from the Pagoda and the Oak Suite for bigger weddings to the Mulberry and Elm Suites for smaller ones. Current numbers for each space are worth checking with the venue.
You can decorate the venue yourselves, although food comes through Sedgebrook Hall itself rather than outside caterers. What’s included in each package is worth checking directly with them.
It’s a hotel too, so guests can stay over, and it’s dog friendly, which is handy if your dog is part of the family and you want them involved.
