Kate & Ross // Dodmoor House // Wedding // Northamptonshire

During August of 2022, I had the pleasure of photographing Kate & Ross’s wedding day at the stunning Dodmoor house, located in Northamptonshire.

I have captured a number of weddings at this particular location a few times now, and it’s safe to say this is becoming one of my favourite Northamptonshire barn wedding venues.

For one it’s simply beautiful, packed full of character and charm, and secondly, the staff know how to look after the bride, groom, and guests. If you are looking for a barn-style wedding venue within Northamptonshire, then make sure to check out Dodmoor house, you won’t be disappointed!

So back to Kate and Ross, I had initially had a good chat with them before their day, to go through their timeline, and came away knowing that this wedding was going to be very special. They were also incredibly easy to get on with, laid back, and simply wanted to have a very relaxed wedding, with no stress or fuss.

On the wedding day itself, I met Ross and his boys at a nearby hotel. It’s pretty rare for me to document both bride and groom prep, but it’s always a lot of fun to do so. I stayed with the lads for a couple of hours, before heading over to Dodmoor house to capture the ladies getting ready. Upon arrival, it didn’t take them long to pop a bottle of champagne open and get into the spirit of things. It was lovely to see the children playing in the courtyard too.

The prep flew by, and before we knew it the ceremony was in full swing. Kate, her bridesmaids, and flower girls looked absolutely stunning and were smiling from ear to ear while they were walking down the aisle.

If you remember the Summer of 2022, you’ll remember that it was an absolute scorcher of a season, with this day being pretty warm, to say the least. In fact, it got so hot during the ceremony Kate had to pull out a hand fan to keep herself cool. (I don’t blame you, I could have done with one myself!)

Throughout the wedding ceremony (Which took place in the courtyard barn) you could clearly see the love between Kate & Ross, as they couldn’t take their eyes off each other. From laughter to tears, every emotion was felt.

Once the ceremony had finished, the rest of the day was really laid back. (exactly what the newly-weds wanted) The group shots were captured in less than ten minutes, and Kate & Ross only wished to spend another ten minutes having couple portraits together too, which of course was absolutely fine. (I will never tell couples what to do, if you want five minutes together for portraits, or forty, it’s up to you!) Spending less time photographing formal portraits and group shots, gave the couple so much more time with their nearest and dearest.

Speeches were held in the courtyard which was lovely, and actually a first for me at this venue. After the speeches had finished, the lads and I disappeared to the car park. I will be honest and say I didn’t know what was going to happen until it did. One of the guys had brought along a few cigars, which for Ross was completely new to him, as he had never touched one in his life. That combined with a miniature bottle of whisky each was pretty funny to document. (The face you pulled Ross was priceless!)

Kate and her girls were constantly laughing together, having the most amazing time. Kate, you have a great sense of humour, you really do. Some of the things you said throughout the day had me secretly giggling to myself.

I would like to thank Kate, Ross, and all of the wedding guests for making me feel so welcome on the day. And to all the staff at Dodmoor house, I would also like to thank you for making Kate & Ross’s day so so special, you rock!

“You have to pick Lewis!

Lewis honestly made our day so easy and fun. I could not recommend him more! From the start his communication was always quick, and after having to postpone our wedding due to covid he still checked in with us every now and then to make sure all was okay. We chatted with Lewis prior to the wedding to make a plan for the day and he was flexible and somehow was both professional yet so personable and friendly.”
