Back in March, I had the pleasure of photographing Charlotte and Jacob’s wedding at Dodmoor House, a venue I always love returning to. If you’ve followed my work for a while, that probably won’t surprise you. It’s one of those wedding venues in Northamptonshire that gets the balance just right, full of character, easy to move around, and brilliant for couples who want a day that feels relaxed from start to finish.
Before the wedding, we jumped on a Zoom call to chat through the plans, go over the timeline, and have a proper catch up. By the end of it, I came away buzzing. Charlotte and Jacob were both so easygoing, and it was obvious straight away that they wanted a wedding day that felt fun, laid back, and centred around enjoying their favourite people.
When I arrived at Dodmoor House on the morning of the wedding, one of the first things I noticed was the new bridal prep space. It’s a lovely addition to the venue and gives the morning such a calm, bright feel. Charlotte was all smiles from the moment I walked in, and the atmosphere in the room was exactly what you’d want, excited, happy, and full of that build up that makes wedding mornings so special.
Groom Prep, Good Energy, and a Brilliant Start to the Day
While Charlotte was getting ready, I also spent some time with Jacob and the lads. The prep space worked brilliantly for groom prep too, and the whole room had a great energy. A few laughs, a cheeky beer, and that mix of excitement and nerves that always makes the morning feel real.
That’s one of the things I enjoy most about weddings at Dodmoor House. Everything feels connected and easy, which means the day never feels rushed or overcomplicated. It lets couples settle into the day properly, and it gives me the freedom to capture both sides of the morning naturally.
Towards the end of prep, I headed back to Charlotte for a first look with her dad. It was such a lovely moment. He looked incredibly proud seeing her in her dress for the first time, and it was one of those parts of the day that needed nothing extra. Just a genuine reaction, and a moment they’ll never forget.

Dodmoor House is one of those wedding venues that just works. It looks beautiful, but never in a way that feels too polished or overdone. The barns have loads of warmth and character, the courtyard keeps everything feeling social and connected, and the whole place has a relaxed atmosphere that suits modern weddings so well.
For couples who want a wedding day that feels special without feeling stiff, Dodmoor House is a brilliant choice. There’s a real sense of flow to it. Guests know where they’re going, the day moves naturally from one part to the next, and there’s space for everyone to enjoy themselves without it ever feeling too formal.

From a photography point of view, Dodmoor House gives you so much to work with. The courtyard and gardens is ideal during drinks receptions, the barns photograph beautifully, and the grounds give enough variety for wedding portraits without ever taking couples too far away from the action.
That makes a huge difference on wedding days. Couples get to spend more time with their guests, the momentum of the day never drops, and the photos stay connected to what the wedding actually felt like. For me, that’s always the goal, to capture the story as it unfolds, rather than turning the day into a drawn out photo session.
A Ceremony Full of Emotion and a Courtyard Full of Life
An Emotional Barn Ceremony
Before long, guests were arriving and it was time for the ceremony. Jacob looked smart, calm, and more than ready as everyone took their seats. Then Charlotte made her entrance with her dad, looking incredible, and the atmosphere in the barn shifted in that way it always does at the best weddings, excitement, nerves, pride, and emotion all hitting at once.
The ceremony itself had everything. Big smiles, laughter, happy tears, and those quieter little looks between the two of them that said more than words ever could. It felt full of meaning from start to finish, and those are always my favourite ceremonies to photograph, the ones where every reaction in the room matters.
Drinks Reception, Group Photos, and Candid Wedding Moments
After the ceremony, everyone headed out into the courtyard for congratulations, drinks, canapés, and one big burst of post ceremony joy. This part of the day had such a good buzz about it. Guests were chatting away, hugging, laughing, and soaking it all in while Charlotte and Jacob enjoyed those first moments as newlyweds.
This is always one of my favourite parts of any wedding to photograph. There’s so much happening naturally, people greeting each other, glasses being raised, little pockets of laughter all over the place. We also used this time for group photos and a few relaxed portraits, all without making the day feel stop start or overly structured.

Natural Portraits Without the Awkwardness
When it came to Charlotte and Jacob’s portraits, we kept everything easy and natural. Nothing stiff, nothing over posed, and no dragging them away from their wedding for ages. Just a bit of time together, a breather in the middle of the day, and a chance for me to capture them as they really are.
They were an absolute dream to photograph. Completely comfortable with each other, totally present, and clearly just loving being married. That always comes through in the images far more than anything forced ever could. The best wedding photography never feels like hard work, it just gives people enough space to be themselves.
Making the Most of the Evening Light
Later in the day, as the light started to soften, we slipped out for a few final portraits before the evening guests arrived. Timing wise, it worked perfectly. We caught that softer feel to the light without taking Charlotte and Jacob away from the celebration for too long.
Those shorter portrait sessions often work best. The energy of the wedding is still there, couples stay in the moment, and the photographs feel part of the day rather than separate from it. Dodmoor House is brilliant for this because you never have to go far to find a lovely backdrop.
Speeches, Sparklers, and a Proper Party
A Wedding Breakfast Full of Laughter
Once everyone headed in for the wedding breakfast and speeches, the atmosphere carried on exactly as it had all morning, warm, fun, and full of life. The room looked brilliant, and there was such a lovely energy running through the whole afternoon.
The speeches brought loads of laughs, some cracking reactions, and a few emotional moments too. That’s what made this wedding so enjoyable to capture. Nothing felt forced. Everyone was fully in it, fully present, and clearly having the best time.
Sparklers, First Dance, and Dance Floor Chaos
As the evening rolled in, the sparklers came out and the guests lined up outside, all buzzing for Charlotte and Jacob. They walked through the middle with huge smiles on their faces, and it was such a fun way to roll the day into the evening celebrations.
Not long after that came the cake cut, the first dance, and then the dance floor properly came to life.
And when I say it came to life, I mean it.
The evening ended exactly how a brilliant wedding should, packed dance floor, loads of energy, and guests throwing themselves into it from start to finish. From a photography point of view, it was gold. From a wedding point of view, it was the perfect ending to a brilliant day.

Charlotte and Jacob’s wedding at Dodmoor House was such a joy to photograph. It had everything I love about weddings, genuine emotion, brilliant people, a relaxed atmosphere, and a couple who were completely focused on enjoying every second of it.
Dodmoor House once again proved why it’s such a brilliant wedding venue. It looks fantastic, it flows beautifully, and it gives couples the kind of setting where the whole day can feel special without ever losing that personal, relaxed feel.
