Photographing a tipi wedding at Belcote Farm

I’ve photographed a wedding at Belcote Farm, and it’s a fun, laid back tipi venue. It sits on a family farm just outside Belbroughton, with views over the Clent Hills, lovely grounds for portraits and a great backdrop for an outdoor ceremony. If you’re looking for a Belcote Farm wedding photographer, that relaxed, informal feel is the main thing I’d want you to know about. It’s the kind of place where guests relax quickly and the day just rolls along.

What makes Belcote Farm work for a relaxed wedding

A private meadow on a family farm

The wedding site is a private, fenced 3 acre meadow on a 70 acre family farm, surrounded by seasonal crops and wildflowers. There’s no open water on site, which is a relief if you’ve got lots of little ones coming. The tipis are made in the UK, hand stitched in the Peak District, and the venue runs on solar powered generators and plants a tree for every couple. All of which suits a wedding that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Outdoor ceremonies, with a plan for rain

The tall ‘naked tipi’ works as an outdoor ceremony space, and this is where the countryside backdrop really earns its keep. You can have a celebrant led ceremony there, or a church wedding first and then head back to the tipis to celebrate. If the weather turns, transparent waterproof walls can go on the tipis, so guests stay dry and can still see the views.

The tipis, the dance floor and Agatha

Four linked tipis seat up to 120 for the meal, which keeps everyone close together for speeches. That’s good news for photographs, because reactions are much easier to catch when people aren’t spread across a huge room. There’s a solid dance floor, a rustic DJ booth, a mirrorball and disco lighting, plus a retro caravan photo booth called Agatha, a selfie station and a silent disco option for the end of the night. Outside, a fire pit and festoon lighting take care of the evening atmosphere.

Where your guests can stay

There’s no accommodation on site, but the venue keeps a list of places nearby at different price points, including Queens Lodge, Bromsgrove Hotel & Spa and Brockencote Hall. There’s also overnight parking, CCTV and security staff, so nobody needs to worry about leaving the car.

Portraits and the evening

For portraits, it’s all about the grounds. The meadow, the wildflowers and the Clent Hills in the distance give plenty of variety close to the tipis, so around 15 minutes is enough without anyone feeling like they’ve lost you. Later on, the fire pit and festoon lights are where the evening gets cosy, and that’s where I’d be looking for the relaxed, slightly giddy guest moments.

How I’d plan your photography at Belcote Farm

A tipi wedding has its own easy rhythm, and my job is to keep it that way. Ceremony in the meadow, drinks outside, a quick wander for portraits as the golden hour light drops over the Clent Hills, then back to the tipis for food, speeches and the dance floor. I’ll step in for confetti and groups, then get out of the way again.

Plenty of variety without wandering far

From a photographer’s point of view, the best thing about Belcote Farm is the variety. The meadow, the tipis, the fields and the hills beyond all give different looks, so your photographs won’t be the same backdrop on repeat. And because the wedding site is one private meadow, everything’s close enough that nobody gets sent on a hike.

Looking for a Worcestershire wedding photographer?

I’m based in Northamptonshire and travel for weddings all over the UK, so Worcestershire is no trouble at all. My approach is documentary led. Most of the day, I blend in and photograph what’s actually happening, then step in when I need to for groups, confetti and a few relaxed portraits. If the thought of being in front of a camera makes you cringe, join the club. You won’t be asked to perform.

What you get back is the laughs, the tears and the dance floor, plus all the bits you missed because you were busy enjoying yourselves. Including, ideally, how good you looked.
