Fun & Alternative Wedding Photographer Leicestershire

Leicestershire weddings, photographed by someone from just down the road

Relaxed & Documentary
Leicestershire Wedding Photographer

Hi, I’m Lewis. I’m based in Northamptonshire, right next door, so Leicestershire weddings are a short drive up the road for me. Leicester, Market Harborough, Loughborough, Lutterworth, all very doable before my first coffee has worn off.
One of my nicest evenings in Leicestershire was an engagement shoot in Foxton with Chez and Fraser. We started at The Black Horse, wandered down to Foxton Locks and heard all about Fraser falling into the canal. Twice. They’d both told me they weren’t fans of having their photo taken. You’d never guess from the pictures.
That’s pretty much how I approach weddings too. Fun and alternative, in my book, means relaxed, documentary and a bit of a laugh. I’m not going to line you up against a wall and ask you to gaze at each other until your face aches.
The portraits we do take are quick, around 15 minutes, with a bit of direction to help and plenty of room for you to just be yourselves.
The rest of the day is where most of your photos come from. Your dad’s reaction when he first sees you. Your friends getting carried away during the speeches. Guests roasting marshmallows round the fire pit once the sun’s gone down.
I’m happy to be the one rounding up the cousins who’ve wandered off to the bar when it’s time for group photos. The rest of the time, I keep out of the way and let the day get on with itself.

Weddings Across Leicestershire

“Lewis was absolutely perfect from start to finish. He is professional, organised, efficient, friendly, and a bloody fabulous photographer!”

From Woodland to Canal Side
I’m an award winning wedding photographer, which I still feel slightly awkward saying out loud. What actually helps you is that I’ve photographed weddings at a real mix of Leicestershire venues, from canal side tipis to historic houses, so I know how different kinds of day tend to flow.
If you’re still weighing up who to book, have a read of my guide to choosing the right photographer. My biggest tip is to meet first, even if it’s on a video call. Your photographer is around for a big chunk of your wedding, so you want to actually get on with them.
Why Book Me?
A few good reasons
What’s Included
The Whole Story
I photograph your wedding as one story rather than a set of separate shots. The quiet build up in the morning, the ceremony, the chaos of the drinks reception, the dance floor later on. It all hangs together.
One Photographer, the Whole Way Through
It’s just me, so you always know who you’re dealing with. From your first message to your finished gallery, it’s the same person.
Choose Your Hours
Half Day gives you 6 hours, The Full Day gives you 10, and The Full Shebang covers 12. If you need a little longer, extra hours are £150 each.
Edited by Me
I edit every image myself, one by one, so the colours and the feel stay true to the day you actually had.
Your Online Gallery
Your photos go into a private online gallery with unlimited downloads. Easy to share with family, including the ones who’ll want a copy of every single group photo.
Albums
Albums come with The Full Day + Album (a 10×10 album with 80 images) and The Full Shebang (a 12×12 album plus a mini accordion book). Have a look at my packages for the full details.
Covering Leicestershire From Next Door in Northamptonshire
What Alternative Looks Like in Practice
At Teela and Matt’s wedding at The Woodlands at Hothorpe, the guests played a peg game all day, clipping pegs onto each other without getting caught. One young lad decided I was his main target. I spent half the day wandering round covered in pegs without noticing until someone burst out laughing. Weddings like that are a joy to be part of.
Documentary, With a Light Touch
Most of your photos will come from me just watching. Who’s welling up in the second row, who’s laughing at the wrong bit of the reading, which of the kids has found the cake. I don’t recreate moments for the camera, so what’s in your gallery is what really happened.
Creative Portraits, Kept Short
If it’s grey, I won’t pretend it’s golden hour. That evening in Foxton was dull and overcast, so for the last photo I used a bit of creative lighting to give it a different look. It took a couple of minutes and suited the mood of the evening far better than waiting for a sunset that wasn’t coming.
Where I’ve Photographed in Leicestershire
Leicestershire has a good mix of venues. Bridge House Barn sits right beside the Grand Union Canal, with tipis, waterfront decking and open countryside that’s lovely for sunset portraits. Rothley Court Hotel and Beaumanor Hall are both historic houses, and I’ve photographed weddings at each of them. When you’re choosing the right wedding venue, think about how the day will flow as well as how it looks. Places where everything happens close together tend to keep the atmosphere going.

FAQ
Do you cover the whole of Leicestershire?
Yes, the whole county. I’m based just over the border in Northamptonshire, so Leicester, Market Harborough, Loughborough and everywhere else are an easy drive.
What makes you a fun and alternative wedding photographer?
Mainly that I don’t take over. I photograph what’s happening, have a laugh with you and your guests, and add some creative portraits along the way. It’s relaxed and documentary rather than stiff and traditional, and it suits a classic church wedding just as well as a tipi in a field.
We hate having our photo taken. Is that a problem?
Join the club. Lots of couples tell me that. I’ll chat to you the whole time and give you a bit of direction when it helps, and the awkwardness usually wears off within a few minutes. There’s more in my guide to wedding photography for camera shy couples.
Will you still take the traditional photos?
Yes. Family groups, the first kiss, cutting the cake, the first dance. They’re all part of your day, so they’re all in your gallery, just photographed in a relaxed way.
Do you stay for the evening?
If your coverage runs that late, yes. The dance floor is often where the best chaos happens, so I’m in no hurry to leave. Some couples skip evening portraits altogether to spend every minute with their guests, like Sadie and Tom at Hothorpe, and that’s completely fine by me.
Can we bring our own ideas?
Please do. Teela insisted on a photo on the little bridge at Hothorpe, because any time she sees a bridge she has to have a photo on it. It’s a family tradition. Little things like that are exactly what I want to know about before the day.
What should we look for when choosing a photographer?
Look through full galleries, read reviews, and check their way of working fits the day you want. If you’re after relaxed and documentary, someone who lines everyone up for an hour won’t suit you, however good their photos are.
