Shustoke Barn Wedding with Big Laughs, Golden Hour portraits & Dancefloor Chaos – Clare & James
If you’re on the hunt for a rustic, character-packed wedding venue in Warwickshire, Shustoke Barn is an absolute gem. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing weddings here before, and each time it completely delivers, from the dramatic red brick architecture to the dreamy countryside setting. Clare and James’ wedding at Shustoke Barn was no exception. It was filled with emotion, sunshine, competitive wedding games, and one of the best champagne sprays I’ve captured to date.
So, if you’re planning a relaxed wedding surrounded by your favourite people and want natural, candid wedding photography that tells the full story of your day, read on.
A Warwickshire Wedding at Shustoke Barn
Shustoke Barn, nestled in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside, is one of those venues that just has everything going for it. Think historic brick walls, vaulted ceilings, fairy lights, and sun-drenched courtyards. It’s a dream for any couple wanting a stylish barn wedding, and a dream for any wedding photographer wanting natural light, texture, and beautiful backdrops in every direction.
This was my second time photographing at Shustoke Barn, and I knew from my chat with Clare and James a few weeks beforehand that this was going to be a seriously fun, laid-back wedding. They told me they didn’t want to spend hours away from their guests posing for photos, they just wanted to enjoy the day and have it captured naturally. Music to my ears!
Familiar Faces & Pre-Wedding Excitement
I actually met Clare at a previous wedding at Dodmoor House, where she was a bridesmaid, so it was such a lovely surprise when she got in touch and asked me to photograph her own day. There’s something extra special about getting to photograph people I’ve already had the pleasure of meeting. It instantly makes the day feel more relaxed, like stepping into a reunion with familiar faces.
The morning of their wedding, I arrived at Shustoke Barn early to get inspired by the space and scout a few fresh ideas for wedding portraits. It’s always exciting to see how couples make the venue their own. Before long, James arrived looking sharp in his suit, quickly followed by a coach full of smiling guests ready to celebrate.
When Clare arrived with her bridal party, the excitement levels went through the roof. She looked absolutely stunning, and the grin on her face said it all, she was more than ready to say “I do.”
A Ceremony Full of Emotion
Their ceremony was packed with emotion, we’re talking laughter, happy tears, and everything in between. James’ reaction when he saw Clare walking down the aisle was priceless. I stayed tucked away, capturing all those real moments as they unfolded. No awkward posing, just raw, beautiful emotion.
After the “I dos,” we headed outside for the always-iconic confetti throw. The smiles, the movement, the colour, it’s a favourite part of the day for a reason. Clare and James were absolutely beaming as their guests showered them in petals.

Relaxed Portraits & Personal Touches
One thing I loved was how Clare and James styled the venue. They’d collected vases for their flowers themselves, which added a really personal touch. After the confetti, we slipped back into the ceremony room (now empty and full of soft light) to grab a few relaxed portraits in front of the floral display. It was the perfect way to capture the space and their hard work, without dragging them away from the party for long.
The weather was spot on, sunny, warm, and just ideal for that light-filled, documentary wedding photography style I love. During the drinks reception, guests got stuck into a few wedding games, and let me tell you, the competition levels were high! Kids and grown-ups alike gave it their all, and it made for some brilliant, energetic shots.
Speeches, Golden Hour & All the Feels
As guests headed inside for the wedding breakfast, speeches followed, and once again, the emotions ran high. From heartfelt words to belly laughs, there wasn’t a dry eye (or an empty wine glass) in sight. The atmosphere was buzzing.
Later, as the sun began to dip, we made the most of the golden hour. This is hands down one of my favourite times for wedding portraits, the light is soft, warm, and just magical. Clare and James were naturals, laughing their way through every frame. It’s these golden moments that help tell the full story of your day, not just what it looked like, but how it felt.

Evening Vibes & Champagne Showers
Back inside, the evening guests had arrived and were busy greeting the newlyweds with hugs, and more laughter. The dancefloor kicked off not long after the cake cut and first dance, and it was absolutely bouncing! From start to finish, it was full of energy, packed with guests throwing shapes, and just a joy to capture.
To round off the night, Clare and James took part in a champagne spray, something I’ve started offering to all my couples from 2025 onwards. It’s messy, fun, and creates some of the most dynamic and celebratory images of the whole day. They absolutely nailed it!
Final Thoughts
A huge thank you to Clare and James for choosing me to capture your day, and for trusting me to do it your way: relaxed, natural, and totally you. And to the team at Shustoke Barn, you were absolute stars, making sure the day ran smoothly from start to finish.
