Teela and Matt’s Fun Filled wedding at the woodlands at hothorpe Hall
Some weddings are calm and gentle, others are emotional and heartfelt… and then there are weddings like Teela and Matt’s, where the entire day feels like one giant celebration from start to finish. Their autumn wedding at The Woodlands at Hothorpe was packed with laughter, high energy, emotional moments, drinking games, and a dancefloor that could have powered the national grid.
If you’re dreaming of a woodland wedding that mixes relaxed moments with proper party vibes, this day sums it up perfectly.
A Luxury Woodland Venue Built for Unforgettable Weddings
The Woodlands at Hothorpe is a bit of a hidden gem. Nestled deep among the trees on the Northamptonshire and Leicestershire border, it offers a completely unique wedding experience. You’ve got tree lined walkways, wooden bridges, an outdoor ceremony space, cosy indoor areas, and that feeling of being wrapped up in nature without being miles away from civilisation.
It’s one of those venues where every turn gives you a new backdrop to play with, and it suited Teela and Matt’s lively, fun loving wedding perfectly.
A Sunny September Wedding Full of Laughter
The weather was absolutely spot on, warm sunshine, glowing light through the trees, and that perfect early autumn brightness that makes the whole venue feel magical. The atmosphere matched the weather too. Everyone arrived ready to celebrate, ready to laugh, and definitely ready to party.
Bridal Prep in the Nearby House
Teela got ready in the house right beside the venue, which made the whole morning calm, close, and easy. One of the most memorable moments was her first look with her dad. The second he saw her, he got emotional, and you could see the pride written all over him. It was a proper lump in the throat moment.
Meanwhile, the bridesmaids were taking instant camera photos non stop, sticking prints everywhere, laughing their heads off, and adding a fun throwback vibe to the morning.
Groom Prep at the Venue
Matt was getting ready at The Woodlands itself. I left him to it so I could focus on all the bridal prep moments, but he was chilled, organised, and in great spirits. Guests could tell he was buzzing for the day ahead.

A Woodland Ceremony with Tears and Smiles Everywhere
Their ceremony took place in the outdoor woodland area, and honestly, it couldn’t have been a more perfect setting for them. Sunlight filtered through the trees, guests settled into the natural surroundings, and emotions hit pretty hard. The bridesmaids cried, guests cried, and there were plenty of moments where the whole ceremony felt incredibly moving.
It was everything you want from a woodland wedding, romantic, heartfelt, and beautifully atmospheric.
The Most Energetic Confetti Aisle Ever
When the ceremony ended, the confetti moment kicked off with full energy. Guests absolutely went for it, cheering, shouting, and surrounding the newlyweds with colour and movement. Teela and Matt even stopped halfway down the aisle for a kiss, and the whole moment exploded with joy.
It was big, bold, and brilliant to photograph.
Portraits Around the Grounds (And the Bridge with a Family Tradition)
The Woodlands is a photographer’s dream, and we made the most of it. Teela and Matt were having so much fun together that they barely needed guidance. They laughed non stop, moved naturally, and made the whole portrait session feel like two mates hanging out rather than a formal part of the day.
One must have shot was on the bridge, which Teela insisted on. Whenever she sees a bridge she needs a photo on it, part of a family tradition, so of course we made it happen.
The venue’s natural scenery did the rest.

A Peg Game That Took Over the Entire Day
One of my favourite parts of the day was the ongoing peg game. Guests secretly clipped pegs to each other without being caught, and one young lad decided I was his main target. I spent half the day wandering around The Woodlands covered in pegs without noticing until someone burst out laughing. It added an unexpected but brilliant bit of fun to the storytelling.
A Wedding Reception That Turned Into a Party Festival
The reception was absolutely buzzing. Between the drinking games, constant laughter, and that electric atmosphere, it felt more like a festival than a formal wedding reception. Everyone was involved, everyone was having fun, and the whole place felt alive.
Teela later switched into her second dress for the evening, and she looked incredible in both. It added a fresh burst of excitement as the night went on.
A Dancefloor That Went Wild (In the Best Way)
When the dancefloor opened, chaos followed, but in the best possible sense. Guests jumped in instantly, the energy was huge, and the first dance turned into a full on celebration as everyone piled in. It was non stop movement, singing, dancing, and high energy moments that made the evening unforgettable.
If you’re someone who loves photographing true party energy, this wedding was one for the books.
Golden Hour Portraits in the Fields
Just before the sun disappeared, we slipped off into a nearby field for golden hour portraits. The light was unreal. Teela and Matt were hysterical the entire time, laughing, goofing around, and being completely themselves. They were so comfortable in front of the camera, probably because nothing about their day felt forced.

There’s a real sense of adventure about the venue too. It feels like a getaway without being far from home.
