Sophie & Sam’s Winter Wedding at Fawsley Hall
Sophie and Sam’s wedding day was a perfect example of how a well planned, relaxed wedding can shine, whatever the weather decides to do. Everything ran exactly as it should, calm, joyful, full of personality, with the rain simply adding a little extra atmosphere to an already brilliant winter celebration at Fawsley Hall Hotel & Spa.
From a church ceremony tucked away within the grounds, to festive portraits by a huge Christmas tree, to a dancefloor packed with energy, this was one of those Northamptonshire weddings filled with moments that genuinely stood out.
A Calm and Meaningful Morning at Fawsley Hall
Bridal prep took place in one of the hotel rooms at Fawsley Hall, and the atmosphere was spot on, relaxed, emotional, and quietly excited. One of the most special moments of the morning came during Sophie’s first look with her dad.
He entered the room wearing a blindfold, which instantly raised a few smiles, but the moment he took it off and saw Sophie for the first time, his reaction said everything. Pure happiness, total pride, and a moment that meant the world to both of them.
Meanwhile, Sam and the groomsmen were also getting ready at the venue. Plenty of laughs, plenty of banter, and exactly the kind of energy you want before heading into a wedding ceremony.

A Church Ceremony Full of Personality
The ceremony took place in the church within the grounds at Fawsley Hall, which was a first for me, and it instantly made the whole thing feel even more personal. A family member delivered a reading, adding to that close knit, relaxed feel.
Once Sophie and Sam had said their I do’s, the moment took a turn nobody will forget. Their family began singing together, completely unplanned, completely joyful, and it lifted the room instantly. Guests laughed, joined in, and the atmosphere was incredible. Moments like that are exactly why I shoot the way I do.
There was no confetti moment after the ceremony, but it was not missed. The emotion and energy spoke for itself.

Winter Portraits, Rainy Skies, and Festive Magic
December weddings come with their own look and feel, and Sophie and Sam fully embraced it. With rain on and off throughout the day, we made the most of both the outdoor spaces and the beautiful interiors.
The Christmas tree inside Fawsley Hall was something else. Huge, glowing, and properly festive, it was perfect for portraits. Add in the twinkly lights outside the entrance, and suddenly the rain became part of the story rather than something to work around.
Their dog was with them for most of the day too, and of course made an appearance during portraits, which always adds an extra layer of personality and fun.
Personal Touches That Made the Day Their Own
This wedding was full of thoughtful and genuinely fun details. Guests were handed tambourines with Sophie and Sam’s names on, which later played a big role on the dancefloor.
There was also a life size cardboard cutout of Sam, which caused endless laughs throughout the day, and small paintings of guests’ faces that had been created during Sophie’s hen do. Watching people discover their mini portraits was brilliant.
These are the details that make a wedding feel like their wedding, and they always photograph brilliantly.
A Big Entrance and a Lift in Energy
Just before the speeches, Sophie and Sam made their entrance to a room full of seated guests, and the energy instantly shifted. Napkins were swung in the air, music filled the room, applause echoed, and the couple fully soaked it all in before taking their seats.
It was one of those moments where you could feel how much love and excitement was in the room.

A Dancefloor That Did Not Slow Down
As the evening began, the atmosphere moved from relaxed to full party mode. Guests flooded the dancefloor singing, dancing, smiling, and shaking tambourines with serious commitment. Sophie’s dad brought incredible energy, the live music set the tone, and the dancefloor stayed packed.
The sparkler line was easily one of the highlights of the day. Everyone got involved, the energy was high, and Sophie and Sam were right in the middle of it all, enjoying every second.
Later in the evening, we headed back inside for night portraits by the Christmas tree. No golden hour in December, but with a bit of creative lighting, that warm glow was recreated to finish the day with something a little bit special.
Why Sophie and Sam Chose Me
Sophie and Sam told me they were drawn to my relaxed but creative approach, especially my focus on natural moments. They wanted someone who would blend in, feel approachable, and make the whole experience easy.
Hearing that I did exactly that, and that my communication before the wedding helped everything feel stress free from start to finish, means a huge amount to me.
