Michelle & David’s Winter Wedding at Highgate House

A winter wedding at Highgate House in Northamptonshire, the perfect way to end the year.

During December 2020, I had the absolute privilege of capturing Michelle & Davids’s Wedding at Highgate house, located in Creaton, Northamptonshire.

To end 2020 by photographing a wedding in my hometown of Northamptonshire was such a great way to end the year.

As you can imagine, getting married last year was pretty much impossible at times. So for the couple to tie the knot in the end, they had quite the journey getting there, but I can imagine it was totally worth it! When the couple had originally booked me in 2019, the coronavirus didn’t exist, and we could never have fathomed how 2020 was going to pan out.

As well as capturing Michelle & Davids’s Wedding, the couple also booked me photograph an engagement session for them, which we did way back in March last year, at Harlestone Firs. This was the first time I got to really know the couple on a more personal level and to discover what a lovely couple they were. Their little boy, Lincoln, was also an absolute joy to capture. It was crazy to see how much he grew, up to the wedding day itself. At our first meet up, he was in a buggy and could not walk, then when it came to the wedding day, he was walking down the aisle like a champ!

So after a few changes and postponements, the wedding day arrived, and I made my way to the hotel room where Michelle was getting ready. This is usually a very manic part of the day, but this was totally different. As it was only Michelle, myself, and the Hair & Makeup team ( A big shout out to the ladies from Beauty within, you two were very professional and clearly great at what you do!) in the room, it had such a relaxed feeling to everything, and in all honesty gave me a little more room to play and get some really creative shots!

THE BARONIAL HALL AT HIGHGATE HOUSE IS PERFECT FOR ANY OCCASION!

Once I had finished capturing the bridal prep, I headed down to the baronial hall where the ceremony was going to take place. This is a room full of charm and character, and it never disappoints. The fire was blazing, the Christmas tree was glistening, the sun was shining through the large windows; the room was perfect!

The first time I met David on the day was in the ceremony room, and I did not recognize him for a second, because of him wearing a mask. I have to say he looked very sharp in his suit, and he was clearly ready to get married to the love of his life. Wedding guests also made their way into the room, admittedly this was a quiet wedding in terms of numbers (again due to covid), but I can honestly say it felt just as special as any other wedding I have captured. Being a documentary style wedding photographer, I love taking a step back, watching for moments to happen, and when that’s combined with a stunning location, it’s a win, win situation.

Once the pre-wedding interviews had taken place, the ceremony began, and Michelle looked absolutely stunning in her wedding dress. Wedding ceremonies always fly by so incredibly quickly, and this was no different.

Once the ceremony had concluded and creative couple portraits were taken inside, we headed outside for group photographs. As I mentioned earlier, the sun was shining, and proceeded to stay on our side throughout the entire day. Being a winter wedding, you never know how the weather will pan out, but thankfully it was gleaming non-stop. Highgate houses grounds are lovely to use for group shots as the grounds are so well maintained.

It was during this time that we also did a confetti shot, now I love photographing a confetti shot, as you never know what’s going to happen. I think wedding guests also love doing it and take a lot of enjoyment throwing the confetti all over a newly wedded couple.

The day could not have gone smoother, and after so spending so much of the year wandering if it was going to go ahead, it did, and they did it in style!

I would like to congratulate Michelle & David on getting married and say thank you for choosing me as your wedding photographer. I wish you, your family & friends a lifetime of happiness, and if you ever need me again, you know where I am!
